When MKCE was first established in April 2008 we saw the opportunity to push the social enterprise agenda and raise the profile of social enterprise. Since then we have campaigned for social enterprise to be represented at strategic meetings and disseminated information from regional and national bodies to social enterprises in Milton Keynes. The network has operated informally, with newsletters; meetings; special interest seminars and surveys for some time.
However in the changing climate we are being asked to ‘represent’ social enterprise and we believe that we need a mandate to do this. So we have formalised our ‘membership’. We will still circulate our e-bulletin but it will become more proactive in seeking feedback from readers.

We have run workshops in:

- Using Social Networks
- Consortium Building
- Procurement and Tendering
- Social Return on Investment
- Peer to Peer support
In addition newsletters and email alerts have ensured information is circulated. In the past 2 years over 200 third sector, social enterprises and emerging social enterprises have been supported.
MKCE has:
- sat on the MK Local Infrastructure Partnership
- attended the formative meetings of the Local Enterprise Partnership and continues to be involved
- passed information to MK Council for the Local Economic Assessment
- regionally ensured that MK social enterprises have had access to over £39K worth of Business Support vouchers
- Bought funds in from the Office of the Third Sector, Capacity Builders and SEEDA.
Increasingly we are asked to be the VOICE of social enterprises in Milton Keynes and we are happy to take this role; however it is vitally important to us that we are given the mandate by you to do this. We will not attend meetings and say we are representing social enterprise unless we truly know we do. To this end we have decided to formalise our membership.
We are asking that YOU become members of the network for a minimum subscription of £10.00 this will entitle you to:

- Listing on the Social Enterprise Directory
- Workshops and seminars with 10% discount

- Qualified Enterprise Coaches (charged service)
- Web & Graphic Design Counsultancy ?(special reduced rates)
- Monthly Bulletin - local, regional and national news
- Display the network logo on your web site
